Day 2773. Thursday 12th July 2012.
Memory Joggers ...
06.10 .. The alarm ..
08.10 .. Shoulder felt quite good yesterday afternoon that I decided to
take the sling off, thinking so much for the physio's warning of days 5
& 6 would be the most uncomfortable .. I must be slow .. arghhhhhhh
14.30 .. I leave work and head for Frimley Parl Hospital for my first
Physio session post op ..
15.30 .. Interesting "assessment" with the physio put in charge of
sorting my left shoulder post last Friday's surgery.
Initially she wanted a medical history which she wrote down .. I've had
to do this so many times in last 2 years at Frimley Park, why the F
isn't all that info on instant recall of her laptop screen ? When asked
about major surgeries I volunteered GRS, which she wrote down
unquestioned.
She was quite young, a good 5' 11' and very boyish build .. I might
have thought she was a F>M as she had more facial hair than I.
About 5 minutes or so into the physical assessment to see how much
movement and strength I have in my left arm and shoulder in all sorts
of directions, comparing it to the right side .. she suddenly asked ..
So what is GRS ?
I gave a very direct reply .. "gender reassignment surgery". Now it may
have just been an odd moment in time .. but I then became aware she was
using a lot more force in the manipulations making me wince and "ow" a
lot from that point on .. hmmmm.

Memory Joggers ...
06.10 .. The alarm ..
14.45 .. The Physio calls me in ..
16.35 .. Finally, I’m back in the office ..
Today, 4 1/2 years on we have been dumped in the same position by
Claire’s care home. For the third time, a care home that had promised
the earth for Claire, especially longevity of that home, has failed
Claire. The home wants to regrade itself making it useless for Claire
and we've been given 6 weeks to find a home and move her. The home,
Midshires in Somercotes wants to move from specialist autistic /
behaviours care to mental health putting 9 people into a complex that
currently has 2 !! See where they are coming from ??
Before I learnt of this, I saw the physio looking into my
breathlessness who got my stress levels raised sharply commenting on
the notes from my 3 1/4 hours in recovery following my surgery 12 days
ago and questioning the cause of my breathing / low O2 issues .. time
will tell if I get another specialist referral.
Saw my boss today, he's "happy" that I'm going to have to rehash the
leave I have booked into short notice days as we shoot around the
country again, I've just got to be careful not to do it on days with a
heavy commitment, not wanting to leave my fantastic company, nor my
colleagues in the lurch. Bang goes our holiday .. probably.

Day 2780. Thursday 19th July 2012.
Memory Joggers ...
06.10 .. The alarm ..
07.49 .. morning world .. after a night time of severe jitter, many
lost packets from multiple ports and apparent over temperature alarms
from the CPU, my journey to work is a bit of a contentious matter ..
thinks I'm going to be late while I make sure breakfast isn't going to
be data forwarded. :-(
09.59 .. The doctor calls me into the surgery ..
Tonight I got home to find a letter from Derbyshire CC .. our local
authority, Surrey CC is refusing point blank to carry the can for
Claire, even though she spent the first 18 years of her life with us in
Surrey, and had paid for her short lived ( 14 months ) in Wiltshire
when she first went into care, before moving to her second home near
Littlehampton when West Sussex health took over funding, and who has
funded her care in Derbyshire till February this year.

Day 2782. Saturday 21st July 2012.
Memory Joggers ...
07.40 .. I wake up in agony .. I’m deaf in my left ear .. apart from
the screaming tinitus ..
It’s the Saturday morning weigh in .. 14st 10lb .. ho hum ..
10.50 .. I head for a shower ..
16.40 .. We head for my mothers ..
19.30 .. We arrive at Hyns ..
It’s been a good 8 months since we’ve been here .. but the Waitress
remembers what we like .. “Chef’s selection fixed menu but no fish” ..
she remembers .. but then, waiting staff tend to remember us for some
reason !!
21.30 .. We head for home ..
Well the pressure / deafness / tinnitus in my left ear I woke up with
this morning remains unchanged .. the pain got worse this afternoon,
but the 1/2 bottle of Pouilly Fume consumed in Hyns with Karen a couple
of hours ago has taken the edge off the pain .. off to bed .. :-( x

Day 2783. Sunday 22nd July 2012.
Memory Joggers ...
07.30 .. I wake with a start .. I’m very dry ..
I snooze on, but my left ear is very uncomfortable ..
09.25 .. I get up to sort breakfast and meds ..
11.05 .. I head for a shower ..
12.05 .. I head for Waitrose in Sunningdale ..
15.40 .. While things are quiet in half my head, I might as well make
the most of it and go mow the jungle that was once a lawn .. ;-))))
17.05 .. I light the barbeque and then head upstairs to sort 3 nails
out ..
19.05 .. I head for my mothers ..
00.20 .. Bed calls ..
More to come ...
Day 2784. Monday 23rd July 2012.
Memory Joggers ...
07.10 .. The alarm ..
07.25 .. Up and at it ..
09.02 .. I head for Frimley Park Hospital ..
09.27 .. I’m seated in the fracture clinic waiting for my 09:30
appointment ..
09.47 .. I’m finally called into the Dr’s cubicle. Top off, he examines
my shoulder and has me do some movements .. then has a feel and that’s
when it really hurts .. ho hum.
10.05 .. I’m on the road ..
10.48 .. Incredibly .. I’ve reached Johnson’s Honda in Beaconsfield. I
sign for the loan car and head for work ..
11.04 .. To save some time, I take the loan car with 250 miles on it up
Welders Lane .. keeping a safe distance between me and the car in
front.
11.09 .. I’m in the office ..
12.45 .. Lunch .. PAB.
15.55 .. I stop for a cup of tea .. my arm is killing me .. :-(.
17.25 .. Just as I’m itching to get away, boss Jon comes to chat with
me .. seems like I’m heading down to Shorncliffe first thing in the
morning to try and give the Gurkha’s some reliable phones in their
studios.
17.38 .. I head for Johnson’s .. my little Marantz recorder on the seat
beside me recording Magic FM .. the loan car is absolutely perfect in
the current weather conditions, when clearly, there is a “RF lift” on
due to the high atmospheric pressure.
18.01 .. I head back to work in my car .. to the trained ear, it’s easy
to spot when it’s breaking up .. but with the “lift” on, the radio does
stay tuned rather than dropping to BBC R2 as it has done continually in
this area for the last few months, only in this car.
18.25 .. Car loaded .. I head for home.
19.14 .. I’m home ..
19.25 .. Dinner is served .. cold barbeque chicken and sausages from
yesterday, with a salad and new potatoes. Dessert is strawberries and
ice cream.
22.10 .. Just seen the head of the Olympics say on BBC News that he's a
working man, and that on the 5* accommodation and limousines handed
over to the officials, .. they need somewhere to live and transport to
get around and do what they do .. just how out of touch with reality
are these twats !!!!
22.40 .. I head for bed ..
More to come ...
Day 2785. Tuesday 24th July 2012.
Memory Joggers ...
I have a very rough night .. gosh my shoulder is hurting ..
06.30 .. The alarm .. Karen’s on holiday so it need not be earlier ..
09.05 .. I am late .. but I’m on the road ..
11.40 .. I’m inside the guard house sorting my pass .. my Samsung phone
comes in handy as I can show the guard my PDF of my MOD security
clearance on screen .. so a red pass becomes green. Our studio is
buried inside the camp, so a very nice young Gurkha is detailed to
accompany me in my car and show me the way .. he had quite a walk back
to the gate.
11.50 .. I arrive at our studio’s in Shorncliffe .. and meet Asha and
Yog.
12.50 .. Yog takes me across the 10 metres to the canteen .. I have a
plate of Gurkha chicken fried rice .. it’s lovely.
15.15 .. My work done, three very happy Gurkha radio presenters very
happy .. I head for home ..
17.08 .. I’m home.
